Allow your team members to create their own processes and resist the urge to demand that they follow your lead. The processes and systems you’ve created should only serve as a foundation – a skeleton of sorts – for your team to get started with.

An example
While working as President of my last venture it was natural for me to adapt my marketing slides whenever I approached a new client.
But, my first sales director didn’t have marketing chops, so my process didn’t work for her. But, she had great research skills. Ultimately, the sales department did away with custom presentations and focused instead on meticulously preparing for calls.
She became very good at her job, and it wasn’t by doing it the way I did it.
No One Wants To Upset A Dictator
Remember, you’re unique, no one else has the skills that you possess. When you give your team the autonomy to create their own processes, they’ll come up with solutions built around their own strengths and understandings.
Think of it this way
If the people you hire to handle, for example, your sales efforts, had your skills, ability, and natural talent, they’d be your cofounder – not your sales leader.
It’s only natural for you to want your team to follow the exact path you’ve carved out. After all, you’ve already solved the problem, right?
But, what’s more important – that your team follow does things they way you tell them too, or that they get the job done as quickly and cheaply as possible?
